I brought my own bike on the island and had a problem where the gear shifter stopped working. After spending two hours in town at a bike shop only to be told that I needed a replacement shifter that they would have to order, I headed over to Easy Riders for the replacement piece. When I got there, the two guys working there spent five minutes looking at my bike and said I didn't need a new shifter at all, it was just that my bell was in the way!! I have been renting from this place for years. Easy Riders Bicycles by far have the best prices on the entire island, and I have fortunately always encountered great customer service. Last year the young lady who dropped our 5 bicycles we rented for the week, took a generous amount of time to answer questions and welcome us. We did have a problem with one of the bicycles and the bike was swapped out within two hours. Upon pickup, the same young lady asked how our week was and was very kind to my daughters. I recently called to rent six bicycles for my two week stay in Sconset. Dorel was very helpful answering all of my questions, and even extending the 10% discount over the telephone so I didn't have to go through the hassle of reserving online. While some of the Nantucket bicycle rental shops are near the ferry dock, Easy Rider works a bit differently: they meet you and deliver your bikes just past the end of the pier (near the Stop&Shop). The folks that met us were quick, friendly, and helpful in planning our route, it couldn't have been easier. The bikes themselves were not-new Schwinn hybrids in excellent mechanical shape and clearly cared for by a skilled bike mechanic. We took the Polpis Road trail out to Siasconset, and the Milestone Road trail back for a round trip of perhaps 16 or 17 miles. We're in our sixties and don't currently bike a lot, but we're distance runners so we're in good cardiovascular shape; we didn't have any real trouble with the trip but our legs were sore the next day. Riding in the downtown area is a little frightening at first but every driver we encountered was very courteous: Nantucket is apparently a bike-friendly island. Once on the trails it was easy going except for the wind, as Nantucket is basically flat. Our hotel arranged for us to hire two bikes for the day at $24 each. The bikes, helmets and locks were delivered and picked up from the hotel which was useful. Both bikes were in reasonable nick and we had no mechanical malfunctions. We were not actually at the hotel when the bikes were dropped off. If we had been, it would have been useful to have been provided with a map (we got one from elsewhere) and to have had a discussion about which cycling trails were most interesting, how long they take to cycle and the degree of difficulty. We gaily set off on the loop trail from downtown Nantucket, via Sconset, which turns out to be lovely but 18 miles long and with some gentle, but prolonged ascents. I wish there were more than 5 stars, because 5 isn't close to enough! Superior bike shop with exemplary customer service! The staff goes above and beyond every time. Rented bikes for 24 hrs., make sure you get a comfortable seat (kids too). Took our bikes all over and had a great time with them. Staff was not helpful with trail lengths. Very nice employees. Great location outside of town on the Surfside Road bike path. They will pick up and drop off bikes which is convenient. I have to deduct a star for the quality of the bikes though. They generally worked fine but weren't as nice as bikes I saw around the island from Cooks and Young's. Rented two bikes for our visit to Nantucket. Loved my old green vintage bike with the beautiful wicker basket. We road these all over the island. Stuffed those basckets with swimsuits and groceries daily. Love all the bikes on Nantucket. One day when walking Easy Rider put a bunch of old basket curbside, So I was lucky enough to bring home a basket to remember our special time in Nantucket. There were six of us and we all rented bikes. The staff knew their bikes, made us a deal and we were off in the saddle in no time. Locks, baskets, and helmets are included in the price. They will deliver or pick up for free, and will rescue you if you have any problems. I really could not emphasize how much I love Easy Riders Bicycles. This past weekend was my first on the island, and Monica and her crew were absolutely amazing. Super friendly, efficient, and did not take advantage of my dire bike situation (after hauling it all the way from home, only to ruin it going over some unexpected cobble stones at 10pm). Amazing service! They drop off bikes for you and will pick them up - even 10 minutes after calling and even if it's in a different location. Prices are a bit better than other places on the island.
